Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport – The Fastest Car In The World

Bugatti-Veyron-Super-Sport

What is the world’s fastest car? Well if you are talking about production cars that are road legal then it’s the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport – the fastest production car in the world. Does a mid-engine, four-wheel drive, two-door car that travels up to 434 kilometers (around 270 mph) an hour excite you? Yes? Then, this car’s for you.

The Bugatti Veyron super sport is the fastest road legal production car on record. It’s faster than any Porsche 911, faster than a Lamborghini Ankonian, and faster than any car of your dreams. It has the power of a Gulf Stream jet – over 1200 horsepower. Are you still sitting down? The price is well over 1.6 million British pounds and it is one of the most expensive cars in the world. The Bugatti Veyron’s price isn’t for the wealthy, it’s for the super rich car aficionado with enough track to actually drive the car on. After all, how many places do you know where you could put your Bugatti Veyron in full throttle without running out of space?

As the fastest street legal car in the world, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport also has some expensive tires in order to handle that speed. The tires alone cost around 20,000 pounds. It gets around 8 miles to the gallon (US costs) so you can expect a hefty gasoline bill as well. It has to handle some serious air flow in order to maintain that high speed and the makers won’t give away all their trade secrets. It was engineered in Germany by Volkswagen, but based on the Bentley Hunaudieres conceptualization. Former Peterbilt trucks engineer and then current Bugatti chief engineer, Wolfgang Schreiber, did most of the engineering design. The car is named after a French racecar driver, Pierre Veyron. It’s a 16-cylinder monster with an additional 4 turbo chargers and made as if two V8 engines were married together. It has a computer-powered gear shift with 7 gears, and can shift from one to the next in mere milliseconds. You can drive this piece of engineering genius in either manual or fully automatic mode.

The Bugatti Veyron specs also include a $120,000 transmission, and a Haldex traction system to keep the car on the road at top speeds; just removing the $25,000 tires from the rims costs around $70,000 since it can only be done in France. So, along with the 1.4 million price-tag for this car, you will also pay a pretty penny to keep the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport running and maintained, but who is counting at this price? It has three heat exchangers to cool air running through the car, as well as three full engine radiators. It has a drag coefficient of only .41 until it is dropped to the ground, which leaves the drag coefficient at .36. The super sport edition has a horsepower of 1200 metric horsepower. As far as the Bugatti Veyron being the fastest car in the world – it will probably soon have competition, but it will have to be street legal and do more than 270 mph, and that’s a high bar to compete with.

In the year 2011 a reported 9 cars were sold up from 5 in 2005. Special additions like the Pur Sang showcased at a Frankfurt car show have also shown up, with incredible styling of that slippery exterior – another feature to handle those incredibly high speeds. The carbon fiber body is made with a diamond cut paint job, so it sparkles like the glint in your eyes when you watch it go fast on a clear, open road or racetrack. There is also a Hermes themed car with similar body style but different coloring, with the Hermes logo on the tire rims. The Bleu Centenaire version was unveiled at a Bugatti show, with all blue paint, a combination of matte and gloss finishes making it really stand out.

The latest Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, was shown at a Top Gear test run with improved aerodynamics and an engine upgrade, so the Super Sport may soon break its own record. And a luxury sedan with the same incredible engine is now being built as a prototype, so you can usher your friends and family to the opera or a soccer game at break neck speed. You can watch the BBC review of the Bugatti Veyron here. It’s top speed record of 267.81 mph is documented here. The Guinness Book of World Records was on hand for that one as well as members of the German Technical Inspection Agency.

Some reviewers state that it moves to fast to be practical in everyday situations, but with the Bugatti Veyron price tag of more than a million dollars, it’s pretty obvious that this car wasn’t meant to be ‘practical.’ It is a display of amazing craftsmanship and engineering. It is a car aficionado’s wet dream in action and as fast cars go it makes the bat-mobile look like a slug. So there you have it, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport – the fastest car in the world.

The Bugatti Veyron is something else, I don’t think any other car manufacturer is going to come out with anything close to beating it’s top speed for quite some time, not one that’s road legal anyhow, like Jeremy Clarkson from top gear says to go on the leader board it has to be road legal and driveable on the road, which includes going over speed bumps.

I don’t know, these days some small never heard head of start up company from an industrial estate in Slough can come out of nowhere and make something that leaves everyone gob smacked, look at the aerial atom and I don’t think the big players will be sitting on their laurels for too long either, in this game no one stays on top for long, it’s always a constant battle for pole position.

The aerial atom rules it’s best car ever; it’s the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

If you put your foot down the aerial atom will take your clothes off for you.

The atom is basically a pair of ladders with an engine welded to it but has to be the fastest car in the world for the money, no other super car would give you so much bang for your buck.

The veyron is an absolute master piece, Buggati are number 1 at this sort of thing at the moment.

The Bugatti Veyron may be the fastest car in the world that is street legal, but what difference does that make when only the richest of the rich can afford it? I have to ask, are the rich of the rich going to drive this car after they buy it or are they just putting them in their showroom and drool over it like we are drooling over this picture? All-in-all I’m very jellous.

i am so with you on that, and after buying this car and driving it maby twice, would they still be the richest of the rich>

I could only say WOW as I digest everything that was said about this car. At top speed of 267.81 mph , my mind and my insides would be left miles behind if I am riding in it, and it would take some time to catch up.

Why do Italians always like coming out with super fast, super expensive cars? No wonder the majority of Italy’s population walk or ride bikes, their automobile industry makes it near impossible to make vehicles affordable.

As long as this car exists I’ll always have a dream

Sara December 5, 2011 at 2:10 am

That is all this car apparently was made for, something that people can only dream of owning. I respect the fact that someone wanted to make the fastest street legal vehical and get awards for it. What I don’t understand is, what is the point of making more than one if your going to price it so high that hardly anyone can afford it?

Shai December 7, 2011 at 9:38 am

Yeah let’s see you fit a family of seven in that car. So unpractical and the price is ridiculous. But I guess it’s another toy the rich and famous can blow their “hard” earned money on.

I think it looks like a tennis shoe! I want one though. Maybe when I’m older and strike it rich. Of course by then they’ll be taken off the market. (Still want a Delorean!)

Sara December 12, 2011 at 4:10 am

Did they use various colors for the other cars manufactured? I think the orange and black is nice but shouldn’t the fastest sports car in the world be red or at least have some red in it?

Reply

Sara December 12, 2011 at 4:48 am

Ray, I agree with you. I am starting to think the way the economy is going, we are going to start walking or riding bikes everywhere as well. Just not sure how we can pull that off in the winter.

Fast cars are nice. But when they’re stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, they’re just as fast as a my pet turtle. I’ll just set aside my million dollars for until they commercialize flying or hovering cars. Now those will definitely “fly” through traffic. No pun intended ;)

Some of the comments are funny! This isn’t a car that’s meant to be practical or to fit a family. This is a car that’s made for real car lovers, who have the money to enjoy it. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Great car! But the color choice is a bit questionable. If this suppose to be the Halloween themed Bugatti? I agree with Sara, red is definitely the color of a speed demon. Just look at Lightening McQueen!

It looks like an awesome car but I still don’t think the cost of it is justified. I still prefer luxury cars over sports car, but I wouldn’t mind having thing in my garage.

I’d love to get me a car like this one, but probably in all black. I don’t suppose they provide a 30 years financing for something like this?

If the.Bugatti Veyron is the fastest car in the world, how so are there other cars that accelerate faster? I don’t think the fastest car should be judged by their top speed!

Reply

laokie January 3, 2012 at 11:07 pm

I wonder how many of these Bugattis actually exist. I also don’t understand how it can be the fastest car in the world and be street legal. I mean what street/road would allow you to really test the car’s speed to full capacity? // I have to admit when I first saw it, it looked like a toy car to me. But I guess that’s kinda what is though, a big expensive millionaire’s toy car.

The next time I’m in the market for a really fast car, I’ll have to remember the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport. Then I’ll go back to my regular 65-70 miles-per-hour vehicle and feel normal again. I had a student once who told me it took him 3 hours to drive from North Carolina to New York. He must have had one of these babies stashed in the back parking lot.

There is a special spot in my dream garage for the Bugatti Veyron. Can you imagine being one of the lucky few to actually own one of these beauties?

varoom January 5, 2012 at 7:33 pm

You know, I don’t even care about how fast the Bugatti goes. After all, with speed limits the way they are, it’s not like we can truly utilize all that power. But, man… that is one awesome looking ride! The design is amazing and I love the black and red. Beautiful, beautiful machine!

Dudette January 5, 2012 at 10:00 pm

This car is made in the shade. It rocks. Man, oh man, it rocks. Where could I learn to drive something that goes that fast? I know I could never find anywhere that allowed sustained travel at that speed, but oh, for a burst or two of it. Perhaps they let people drive on the salt flats or something? Oh, I’m in love.

I remember when thrust 2 was the fastest car in the world, at present I think it is Thrust SSC, but these are not road cars.

The SSC ultimate aero twin turbo V8 is the closest thing out there and is only $750,000.00 US it has 1260hp and a top speed of 274mph

That is one sexy car. Can you imagine having enough money that $25,000 per tire wouldn’t phase you? That transmission cost 5 times what my whole car cost.

Reply

Justin Erickson February 7, 2012 at 9:09 pm

If the SSC Tuatara ever gos into production, which it probably will. It will be the fastest car in the world. Ether way the Bugatti Veyron is the best car in the world, in my book,.

Zack February 9, 2012 at 5:47 pm

I saw thrust 2 in the Coventry transport museum, you had to watch a really boring video all about it first though.

Obviously when it comes to the title of the fastest car in the world there are many different categories, from road cars to formula 1 to cars like the Thrust SSC which hold the land speed record, most people are probably thinking of road cars but we will try and include some of the other categories that people may be interested in too. Thank for all the comments folks, please keep them coming.

Even if this car isn’t quite the fastest car in the world, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is sharp, sleep and beautiful enough to look as though it drove out of a movie and into the land of my dreams. Oh, this car is sharp!

No matter what you would say, that car is a master piece. Its an icon of Engineering Skills and if i could have the cash, definitely it could be in my garage

That car may be fast and high performing but I’m really not taken with the looks of it. The design isn’t bad, I suppose, but I really hate the paint job. It just looks too fantastical to be taken seriously.

Thrust SSC isn’t really a proper car, it’s more like a space rocket with wheels.

If I owned a Bugatti Veyron, I’d never drive it. I’d just stare at it all day, sing to it on occasion, wash it everyday and read it a bedtime story every night. Defeats the whole purpose of owning one of these beauties, but it’s my car and I can do with it what I like!
