If you are looking for a German engineered super sports car that has a V8 engine and a 6-speed manual, sequential transmission as well as the looks of a car fit for a super hero or a billionaire magnate, then the Gumpert Apollo is the car for you. The car’s doors open like wings, reminiscent of the early DeLorean, and it is still street legal, though you’ll be enticed to take it straight away on the race track. The first pre-production version of the car that came from Roland Gumpert’s imaginative and mechanical mind was one-fourth the size of the car you would drive off the Sportwagenmanufaktur Altenburg GmbH lot today, but it was through making this prototype that the car was given its truly beautiful styling and technical performance so that you can now enjoy the Gumpert Apollo which is one of the fastest production cars in the world today.
The Gumpert Apollo price depends on the model that you choose because there are three different types, and each comes with its own price tag and specs. There are base, sport and race versions of the Apollo so you expect top speeds ranging up to 224 miles per hour, making it one of the fastest cars in the world. The car’s total weight varies according to the model as well with a range of total weight being between 2400 and 2600 pounds. All three versions have a 4163 cc twin-turbo cooled engine taken straight from the car maker’s time in China making Audis. There are four separate oxygen sensors to get the optimum gas mixture and metal cylinder heads, which are ultra-light but each have five valves per cylinder. The Gumpert Apollo specs are what you would expect from a super car, with a multipoint fuel injection system and a state of the art accelerator system. The Gumpert Apollo will only cost you around $500,000 which isn’t bad by super car standards.
The makers of the car even claim that if it had to, and the speed was maintained at more than 190 miles per hour, it could drive upside down through a tunnel, although this has not actually been demonstrated or tested, but with claims like that, it certainly makes the car racing enthusiast eager to test it out. If nothing else, the Gumpert Apollo would be cast well in a super hero movie, or as the next automobile to add to the bat cave. The Gumpert Apollo top speed (documented and recorded) is 225 mph, and it can get there in a hurry with a 0 to 60 timing of 2.8 seconds. The German race car driver, Adrian Sutil recently crashed the car trying to take it beyond the now-current top speed, and broke a few teeth in the process. On the Monza circuit in Italy the car was clocked going 270 kilometers an hour. It is certainly holding its own on race tracks around the world.
The most recent version of the Gumpert Apollo was seen at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Even the instrument panel is made of carbon fiber and the seat is luxury itself, being specially fitted for every driver. It has a high-end navi-system and a DVD player, although I wouldn’t recommend watching the latest Fast and Furious while driving.

Neat! There is no way I will ever have the opportunity to see one of these in person doing its thing but how much do I wish I could? They make some interesting claims and I would love to see them tested.
This Gumpert isn’t an attractive car but it sure kicks butt!
I’ve actually seen a Gumpert Apollo on television. The photo here doesn’t do this one justice; neither does the color. The Gumpert Apollo is really a sleek and attractive car when its viewed from the right angles. I love how the doors open like wings, opening up for whatever jewel-bedecked lady or gent steps out. For half a million dollars, it’s bound to have features that please inside.
Why would anyone say it’s not an attractive car? I think it’s pretty awesome looking, personally. Kind of reminiscent of the Batmobile, for some reason. Eh, maybe that’s a guy thing? I’ll never have the cash to just blow for a car like that but I sure like seeing them in action.
Exactly my thought. I think that blue is part of why it reminds me of Batman’s ride. I think I would want it in a different color. Look how low that thing rides, hugging the road.
The first time I saw the image of the car, I did think that it somehow resembles the Batmobile. Cars opening like wings are simply awesome! Overall, the car looks too masculine for my taste though, but that’s just me!
Now this just looks ridiculous!
The car’s engineering is incredible and clearly will give a fantastic performance but I think the best part is how customized it is. Having the seat fitted to the driver is a brilliant idea and very likely makes it safer. However, did they really think orange was a sexy car color?
Love this car. I’d happily propose to it for its wheels in marriage if I had half a million dollars lying around. I prefer it in blue than orange, though. I think the blue makes it look more elegant.
I’m so glad they didn’t make them all with that hideous bright orange of the first picture above. The blue in the video is much more attractive and congruent with the image befitting a powerful machine. Apollo is a fitting name, too – this thing takes off like a rocket!
